    Hello,

I wonder if anybody experienced the same problem: When trying to activate Windows XP via telephone normally - after entering the serial number provided on the sticker - you receive a 50 or 54 digit installation identifier. Normally, because in my Guest OS no ID shows up.

Even extensive research via google and in MS Support did not deliver any solution - so I wonder if this might be a problem of installing "inside" Parallels for Mac.

    Hardware: Mac Book Pro 15"
    Parallels in 14-day-trial-mode
Windows XP: Legal non activated OEM serial that can normally be activated

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,
    Hartmut

hartmood, the user manual says (page 16) that only "a full (not oem) version of the operating system" can be used.

I learned this the hard way after I spent $100 on an oem version of windows xp.

Good news: Windows XP activation problem - nothing to with Parallels or VM

    Dave,

last night I solved the problpem:

Identifier did not show up, when switching instantly to activation by telephone. If you try to activate by internet first, for some reason it generates an ID then. As I took a backup CD with the Corporate Version of XP it could never be possible to activate it.

Nevertheless it is definitely possible to activate an OEM version of Windows XP
This can only be done via telephone and you can even use a key for a different language. I have successfully activated a German Windows XP Pro with a Fujitsu Siemens OEM (English) "inside" Parallels.

So good news: Windows XP activation problem - nothing to with Parallels or VM.

Regards and thanks for kind help

    Dave,

I looked at p.16 of the PDF version of the manual and there is no reference to needing a full oem version of XP. I also did a search for "oem" in the entire manual and came up empty, then XP and all of the refernces were silent about needing a full version.

Could you have been mistaken? Thanks; obviously it makes a big difference to a potential purchaser. Thanks,

    Bill M.

All versions can active over the internet - including OEM versions. Where did you get this version? Do you have another copy you can try?
