CANNOT COPY .hdd NOR .hds file

Hi, having issues with parallel,

I'm trying to copy the .hds as per the " Error message "Hdd file is missing, corrupted, or used by other application" appears upon virtual machine startup" article and my imac osx lepoard intel can't copy the file , I get the following error message

The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "windowsxp.hdd.0.{5fbaabe3-6958-40ff-92a7-860e329aab41}.hds could not be read or written (Error code -36)

I've been able to copy the .hds when I faced a parallel error a few months ago but for some reason cannot do so this time..

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

As a first step please restart Mac and perform permissions repair, also make sure that you do not copy hds file to disk with FAT32 partition

 

Thanks John, that was the frist thing I tried but no luck

 

Where do you copy that hds file ?
on the same HDD or to external?
What is format for external drive?

 

I have tried copying file to both same disk and external disk both times with no success (always get an error message when it gets to 10.10 gigs - 30.1 gigs to be copied in total)

both disks are formatted mac os extended (journaled)

 

It looks like file system corruption
Try fsck in single user mode as http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417

Could you perform following command in Terminal and let me know output:
cd Documents/Parallels

ls -RlOa
