    Hello,

My Mac Pro, running osx 10.6.8, is running windows 7 through parallels off my bootcamp partition.

Coherence worked for a little bit, then i switched to normal, and when trying to switch to coherence again i get an error message that reads: "Unable to switch to coherence. The virtual machine display configuration could not be applied. Please try again or contact the Parallels support team for assistance. "

    Great.
I try to "contact the support team for assistance" but I need a support code, and to get a support code i try to register. but when registering i get a message saying that my serial or whatever number is not working... AND IT IS THE DA*&(*() NUMBER I GOT FOR THE TRIAL VERSION FROM PARALLELS.

I am glad I didn't buy this software yet, otherwise I'd be really really pissed.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling parallels tools... same thing, straight away.

I am running three monitors on my mac pro.

Any suggestions? i am posting here because Parallels support is so difficult that i only hope they or someone in the know may come across this with a solution...

    thank you!

    r.

So, there is a solution. Here is the short and sweet version:
For situations when coherence will not work with multiple external monitors (esp using DisplayLink driver) giving error message "Unable to switch to coherence. The virtual machine display configuration could not be applied":
    1. "Parallels Desktop" menu -> "Preferences" -> USB tab
    2. "When a new USB device is detected:" select "Connect it to my Mac"
    3. Under "Permanent Assignments:", delete any USB Devices listed

The detailed story is under a different thread:

    Good luck.
