    Hello

First let me make it perfectly clear, I am very new to Ubuntu, in fact I have no useable knowledge of this OS at all, but I am prepared to learn. I have installed ubuntu 8.10 onto a Parallel 3.0 Desktop (Build 5636)VM (MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz 2GB RAM 160GB HDD, this installation went perfectly well as far as I can tell.

I do however, have significant problems installing Parallel Tools: So far I have reached the stage were the Parallel Tools Disk Icon is visible on the desktop, and I have opened a Terminal window and typed "sudo sh /cdrom/parallels-tools.run", however the following is displayed:

"Verifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing Parallels Tools for Linux..... You are about the start installing Parallels Tools" (there is some further text at this point regarding saving and data loss) then it asks: Continue ? [Yes/No]: I input "Yes", then the message follows "Found xorg version 1.5.2, Installation for xorg.1.5 not found."

I am sure the answer to my next question is obvious but, is it possible to install Parallel Tools on this version of Ubuntu and if so how does one go about it. I would be most grateful for helpful suggestions and replies.

Please accept my apologies if the answer has already been posted, but there appears to be a plethora of suggestions posted among various forums and I have become thoroughly confused.

Please note: A Parallel team member did direct another ubuntu Parallels Tools installer to this page "Installing Parallels Tools in a Linux guest OS" however when I attempt the rather simple "su" command, I am prompted for my password, but then I receive an Authentication failed error, and clearly I am unable to proceed from there.

Additionally p.91 of the Parallels Desktop for Mac User Guide states "You must have root privileges to run the command" with regard "sh parallels-tools.run". I have used the "sudo bash" command and the prompt in the terminal window goes from myusername@myVMname:~$ to root@myVMname:~$ after I enter my password, then I try the "sudo sh /cdrom/parallels-tools.run" I get the same "Found xorg version 1.5.2 Installation for xorg.1.5 not found".

Finally I tried the "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential" as suggested in a previous post "Installing Parallels Tools in Ubuntu 8.10 Nov 29, 2008" and some files were installed at least I think so, but this has failed to produce the desired result.

It would appear I am getting lost in this ubuntu world.
