Cannot reduce PVM size on disk

Hi,

I just upgraded to 4.0.3540. I've been running PD3 since May 2007 and upgraded to PD4 last month. I have two VMs, both windows XP. Both are running fine and both show as 28.8gb in Windows. However, one has a PVM size of 28.8gb in MAC OS and the other has a PVM size of 92.31gb in MAC OS. I've run both compressor and image tool to reduce the footprint. Do I need to convert the format on the 2nd PVM? Not sure how the 2nd one got so puffy.

 

Inside big VM bundle check are there folders with (backup) in name?

That was it exactly. I can just delete the folders out of the package, right?

Also, my actual disk usage inside the VM is about 13gb but my disk size is 30gb (default when created). Is there a way to reduce the windows disk to 20gb or less? I keep data in the mac volume so it's just OS and stored apps.

 

That was old VM backup, it is up to you to decide, do you want to delete it, or to keep on external disk
When you remove that folder pvm size will be reduced,
Please note when you create disk, it is expanding, and keeps only information you put on it, not 30 gbBut I think you are using Snapshots, that is why it is growing so quick
Please merge snapshots
Be sure, to backup that pvm first, in case of incorrect operation you can lost all data

I ran compressor and both PVMs are now the same size on the MAC volume as within the VM. One PVM does have two snapshots XML in the snapshots folder of the PVM but when I try to merge the app says I do not have any snapshots. I assume they are stranded? Can I just delete contents of the snapshots folder? Do I need to delete the snapshots.xml file? I have two snapshot.xml files, one in the root of the PVM and another in the snapshots folder.

 

Extract DiskDescriptor.xml file from hdd bundle and check is there Snapshots section?

You have Snapshots
Please backup VM, and use Parallels Image Tool to merge Snapshots

Still confused. I realize I have a snapshots folder as well as a snaphots XML. However, I merged snapshots before I upgraded to PD4. Also, When I go into image tool the merge snapshots check box is gray. I think these items are stranded, if I delete the contents of the folder and as well as the XML file will I be ok?

 

There may be a problem if you copied VM from older Mac to newer Mac,
Anyway , I guess, you need to backup VM, and try operation you suggested,
Or just delete Snapshots section from DiskDescriptor.xml
If VM starts , you can delete file and folders Snapshots.

Just make sure you have backup
