Every time I attempt to connect a USB device (in this case a Garmin GPS) I get the message "another application is already using the USB device..." No action, so far solved the problem. I am on 10.4.11 and Parallels 3.0 version 5162. Any help? Thanks.
Yes, other usb devices (memory stick) work fine. The Mac recognizes the Garmin GPS through webupdater, but even installing that application on the virtual OS doesn't help...
Garmin 201 Forerunner/ IO GEAR GUC232A I had the same problem getting my Garmin 201 Forerunner to work with Parallels and the Garmin Training Centre running under Windows XP. This was in build 5160 under 10.5.1, but I assume the same problems exist in build 5582. Parallels always reported that "another application is already using the USB device..." (or something like that because I cannot remember the exact error message). What I did to fix it was that I uninstalled the IOGEAR driver for the Mac OS, and installed their XP driver into Windows. Now, everything works as it should with the Windows version of Garmin Training Centre. The downside is that the device does not work in the Mac OS (not that I needed it to) though Apple System Profiler reports it being there. It is too bad that the Mac version of the Garmin Training Centre will not recognize the 201, but maybe if it did then Garmin would have to supply some connectivity solution.) The only other problem is that it my iMac (late 2007) will not sleep with this device attached so I have just unplugged it when I am not using it. I don't know whether this is a Mac OS X problem or an IOGEAR (or Prolific, or Aten, or whoever makes this device in Taiwan).
Thanks, but where do I find the IOGEAR driver in my Mac? Actually I did not install any driver for the 296 into my OSX, just the Garmin Webupdater and with that the Mac recognizes the 296 through USB but as I said it won't on the VM.
I don't think we are having the same issue. I had installed the IOGEAR GUC232A driver from their website and the instructions for uninstalling it come up with their installer. My issue is that the Mac OS X driver, seemed to be blocking Parallels from accessing it. It seems like the latest version for this Prolific chipset is on the Aten website (www.aten.com). Hopefully IOGEAR will solve this because I am tired of dealing with it and since I have got a functional workaround I will just live with it. Welcome to the OS X PL2303 USB to Serial driver Installation Program. You will be guided through the steps necessary to install this software. Imported Uninstall information: PackageMaker does not support uninstall! Removing the driver can be done by executing the following steps: -open a terminal -type: kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/osx-pl2303.kext/ -The command prompt ask for you administrator password -type: sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/osx-pl2303.kext/ -The command prompt ask for you administrator password -type: sudo rm -r /Library/Receipts/osx-pl2303.pkg/ The driver should be uninstalled.
Hi pictures - I have the latest MBP running 10.5.1, Parallels Build 5582, XP Pro VM and Vista Ultimate under Boot Camp. I use Garmin Mapsource and BlueChart Pacific for my trip planning and I use the Garmin USB card reader to upload/download data to my GPSMAP 3010C chart plotter. The USB card reader works OK under the XP VM using the latest version of Mapsource. However, I have not been able to get the Vista VM (created from my Boot Camp partition) to recognise the card reader. The USB card reader works fine with Vista under Boot Camp. Not sure if this helps your situation, but for me, at least I can use the convenience of Parallels XP VM for trip planning and upload/download with my USB card reader. I can also do my trip planning with the Vista VM, and if necessary, fall back to Vista/Boot Camp to use the USB card reader.
