    Hello,

I had a working virtual machine running Windows XP under Parallels 3. I'm afraid I'm not sure which build of Parallels 3 I was using.

I installed the Parallels 4 upgrade, started my Windows VM, and chose the 'backup and upgrade' option. After the backup completed, the upgrade failed with the following message. All successive attempts to updgrade (w/o additional backup) have failed with the same message.

"The configuration file you specified is invalid.
Make sure that hte specified file is a valid Parallels virtual machine configuration file and it is not corrupt, or select another file."

I've replaced Parallels 3 with 4, so I can't easily go back to Parallels and reload the config file. Anyway, it was fine the last time I used it and don't think it's likely that it suddenly became corrupt unless the upgrade process did that.

Probably irrelevant, but I also upgraded my Ubuntu VM, and that worked just fine.

I'm using Parallels 4.0 build 3810, just bought this weekend. Running it on a 1.66 GHz Intel Mini Core Duo under OS X 10.4.11.

    thanks!

    Hello,

Try creating a new virtual machine based on your old virtual disk via File -> New. Skil OS detection, specify your OS manually, use a custom virtual machine, specify that you want to use an existing virtual disk and browse for it. On all other options stick on the defaults for now. Try to start the virtual machine after this, does it work?
