Whenever my browser has to validate internet access (like in a hotel when it asked for a room number or in an airport with paid access) the connection is not passed to the virtual machine (Windows XP in this case). The OS X side can access just fine, but not the XP virtual machine. The VM can access the internet just fine if if the browser is not involved in the validation process. Really a problem when I am traveling...
