Cant get Presentation mode to work in HDMI

    I am having a problem getting the presentation mode to work on an external HDMI connection. If I plug in a VGA to lightning adapter to the monitor works, if I switch the adapter to HDMI and change the input to the monitor to HDMI all I get is a blank screen. If I connect a thunderbolt display it works. How can I get the output to be HDMI?
