I urgently need to restore a file on a burned CD-RW disc. The file was burned on the Mac desktop, but I can't open the folder at all. The files were Windows files which I transferred to the burn folder prior to burning. The error message is: The alias Updated Software cant be opened because the original item cant be found. When I try to fix the alias, I get a listing of various programs. Clicking on Parallels didn't work? What am I doing wrong? I really need to get a copy of one of the files inside the folder. Thanks, TobyT
Somebody must know what I can do. To fix the alias, I guess I have to point to the original file location. But, that's on the virtual machine. I've tried pointing to the vpm, the hdd, Parallels, various applications, etc. Nothing works. I really need to get access to this file. Needless to say, I've lost all confidence in the Mac's Burn Folder and in the future will burn Windows data ONLY using Nero. Wish I'd done this in the first place!
When you get info on the alias, does it show where the original was supposed to be? Were you running a virtual machine at the time you created the burn folder? Try running the virtual machine again. Or, you could right click the virtual machine or .hdd and select Open with... -> Parallels Mounter.
No, it doesn't point to anything. I had the vm running in order to move the files over to the Mac for burning. I had the vm running when I tried to open the file because the file would have to be moved over to the vm in order for me to read/install it. 'm leaving on a business trip with no time; I'll try your suggestions later. I Just had to do without the file! TobyT
