Please help a user with limited technical skills deal with an odd problem... My VM can access my Mac's Ethernet-provided Internet connection for purposes of creating a VPN connection or accessing email via MS Outlook. However, MS Internet Explorer on the VM cannot access any website. I think I changed some vital setting, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it was.

This problem occurred following a frustrating effort to get the VM to share a hotel internet connection during a recent road trip. While trying to resolve the problem, I changed, in various ways, both the Internet Sharing settings in the Mac System Preferences and the Network Adaptor settings in Parallels. I chalked up the problem to the way the hotel assigned IP addresses to its users, did the best I could with the connection I had, and was glad when I was able to return to my home network. I set everything back the way it was before (I think).

However, my problems seems to have followed me home. Previously on the home network, I was able to launch the VM and browse via MS Internet Explorer. However, every time I try that now MIE gives me a "cannot display the webpage" error. Clicking the link MIE offers to diagnose the problem tells me (unhelpfully) that "Windows did not detect any problems with your Internet connection." Furthermore, it's clear that the VM does have some sort of connection: I can launch Outlook and get a connection to my email, and I can connect via VPN and access files on my office network.

I'm running Parallels Desktop for Mac build 3214 on my 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo processor MacBook Pro which is running OS X v. 10.4.11. MIE is version 7.0.5730.11, and I'm running Windows XP Professional version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. Right now, my Mac's Internet file sharing is turned on and set to share via built-in Ethernet. My VM Network Adaptor is set to connect via shared networking.

I have not yet tried to reinstall MS Office, but that's my next step if no one here can offer a better suggestion.

Thanks, in advance, for all help.

    Me too.

I have the same problem, I think. I can FTP, but my browsers (IE and Mozilla) open a page, but 50% of the time can open a next link.
