I am sure I must have missed the post, but I simply cannot find any solution for Parallels 9:

How do I create a virtual machine *without* a virtual harddisk? I found a post covering the procedure for an much older version of parallels, but the GUI changed since then.

I want to run a Linux Live CD in Parallels 9 directly from the Live ISO, PuppyLinux, CT's Surfix, Tails, etc.... all Debian (Ubuntu) based. I do not need a Parallels .hdd file at all.

What I managed is creating the VM Guest,
    choose manual configuration,
    uncheck "connect HD",
connect the Live ISO as default CD and
    change "Boot order" to CD

But still there is a 512MB .hdd file created?

How do I drop the harddisk completely?

My configuration is Mac OS X 10.9 and Parallels 9.0 on a brand new MacBook Pro 15''.

I am very surprised that it does not hail with google hits on this one. If you try the same with VirtualBox there are numerous explanations.

    Help very much appreciated, thanks.
