Since upgrading to Parallels Desktop 5, my Windows Vista VM fails to shutdown properly. Windows logs me off, then says "shutting down" with the whirling circle, but this never goes away. The only way I've discovered to recover from this is to quit & sometimes force quit Parallels desktop and then restart my Mac. Windows starts OK (without reporting a bad shutdown) after this process. I have the same issue if I STOP the virtual machine from parallels, except upon restart of my MAC windows complains of a bad shutdown. If I do not restart the Mac, and restart parallels desktop the VM appears to still be running. The VM drop down menu is greyed out except for Stop which is checked. The VM has a grey screen with the VM name with a whirling circle, but does not show the "Click to Start" prompt.
I have Vista Ultimate SP1 which is running "well" under Parallels 5. Would like to upgrade to SP2 but am not confident to do so given your experience. Have posted here so that I will be informed when there is an update to the status.
I should have also mentioned that the Vista OS (Business with SP2) config worked fine under Desktop 4. I upgraded because I was enticed by the 3x faster claim.
