I like the default Ubuntu distro created when installing from the Parallels wizard. But the wizard does NOT have a way to save the download before the extraction phase. The download is 1.6 GB and currently installs Ubuntu 13.04. I broke my VM a couple times and had to do the whole 1.6 GB download over again each time.

It would be to have an ISO file that exactly matches the installation wizard download.

The wizard installation creates a beautiful Ubuntu VM. I've tried some other custom Ubuntu distros, and they're ugly out of the box. I'm not sure if Parallels customizes Ubuntu, or if it is simply a default installation. I've since created a snapshot, so I don't have to download 1.6 GB again, if I break the VM. But a matching ISO distro would be nice.

Mate, I can't help you with that question, but is Linux Ubuntu good for beginners?
