Poking around all over the place and read a lot of similar problems, but haven't seen any resolutions. I have Parallels 8 and Windows 8 and Mountain Lion, on MBP Retina, then I upgraded to Mavericks. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 afterwards, lost my link to //psf. Parallels help indicated I needed to uninstall tools and reinstall. Unfortunately, after uninstall and Windows get stuck in a reboot and the only way to recover is to restore the image prior to the Tools uninstall. 1) Seems like the only way to restore //psf is to uninstall tools and reinstall, but Windows never can complete its boot up after the uninstall for me 2) I tried this with my old Windows 8 .pvm and guess what, it does the same thing. So is it Mavericks? I'm not uninstalling Mavericks to check... 3) Is it Parallels 8? I read a post here that someone indicated it happens with Parallels 9. Anyway, I'm back with Windows 8... can't get to 8.1 because can't access //psf and can't fix it by uninstalling Tools and reinstalling 'cause windows won't boot. Not sure if upgrading to Parallels 9 will fix this either. Oh well.
UPDATE. Got it to work. I tried a "fresh" install of Windows 8, upgrade to 8.1 under Mavericks with Parallels 8. Everything worked fine. Lost //psf on the upgrade from 8 to 8.1, but uninstall of Parallel Tools and then reinstall worked fine. So there's some configuration/settings incompatibility with my previous Virtual Machine. With this new bit of info, I worked with my previous VM to get it working, so a lot of tweaking with the VM configuration. Never did get Windows (8.1 or 8) to reboot properly after uninstall of Parallel Tools. So I tried to just manually reinstall Parallel Tools on top of the current one. At first, Parallel Tools couldn't install, changed VM configuration (turned off sharing, Video set for "Best for Retina", SmartMouse set to "Off", all peripherals disconnected, Bluetooth sharing off, Mac printers not added). Not sure which one helped, but then Parallel Tools reinstalled on top of itself. Rebooted and //psf came back online and everything seems to be working. Go figure... just sharing my experiences.
