I am connecting my Macbook Pro 13.3 to a Gateway 24" 1920x1200 monitor via the display Port (or whatever) to DVI adapter. I shut the lid, and after the laptop goes to sleep, I disconnect and reconnect a USB device, and the display goes to that resolution on the external monitor. However, new Parallels windows (XP VM) appear as only a white box, (McApps are just fine. I am typing this in Safari on the Gateway). I know where the Red X is, so I can close the Winapp. No context window, no nothing. If I start the XP application prior to sending everything to the external monitor, that app is fine, but nothing else shows. I have recently upgraded to 6.0 (I am quite the newbie to the Mac world), and it pushed the latest upgrade to me this morning. Any thoughts?
Hello out there!?!?!? Doesn't anybody drive an external monitor at a higher resolution? Please lend a voice
Doh! Wow! No one guessed the right answer. I'm so disappointed! All I had to do was restart the VM after I switched to the higher resolution of the external monitor. Windows was started at low rez. How could it know unless told Life is good. Forum? Hmmm
Wrong again! Well, for any listeners still out there, it wasn't Windows fault! Parallels never told it. You would think simply restarting the VM would have done it, BUT NO! You had to quit out of Parallels as well.
I have the same problem with Windows 7. So, every time I wake the external monitor I will need to restart Parallels?
Resolution differences require Quit It is only to clear up the resolution differences. If the same, no problem. But, both going to the higher-resolution external monitor, and returning back to the laptop display require Parallels Desktop itself to be restarted, not just the Windows VM. (I have not tried to suspend the VM during the Quit and restart of Parallels.) I have also found that the USB wake-up trick only works if the A/C is connected.
