I use Parallels Desktop 18 for Mac, Pro Edition, version 18.3.2 (53621) on a Macbook Pro with Apple M2 Max processor. I run a VM with Windows 11, and I have Coherence on. I have multiple external displays connected, and "Use all displays in full screen" is on. I have a link to Windows File Explorer in my dock, and usually it works fine, but sometimes it does not. A dot will appear under the dock icon to indicate that the application has started, but then the dot will disappear again and the File Explorer window will not show up. When clicking it repeatedly, the same thing happens each time, and it seems it's just impossible to open File Explorer. Yet when I then disable Coherence, it turns out that File Explorer did in fact start, and it will have one window open for each time I clicked the dock icon! I haven't been able to find a pattern to this, so I don't know what triggers this. Usually I reboot Windows and my Mac and then it works again, but this issue is getting more and more frustrating. I can't believe I'm the only one that has this issue, and every time I update Parallels I have new hope that this will be resolved, but until now it has persisted, and it's infuriating. Please help.
Hello, For us to further investigate this issue, kindly provide us with the following information: 1. Kindly reproduce the issue and collect a technical report (right-click Parallels icon in Dock > Help > Send technical data > check "Attach screenshots..." > press Send Report) and provide us with the report's 9-digit ID in reply to this post. Thanks
Resolution. Ensure your virtual machine isn't in Full Screen view mode. You must first exit Full Screen (View > Exit Full Screen) before attempting to enter Coherence mode (View > Enter Coherence). Ensure Equals Devices are introduced and cutting-edge.
--- I have the same problem; -> sometimes it works fine (file explorer window shown) , -> sometimes does not show the file explorer window at all -> I then have to stop the VM, stop coherence, or even have to reboot the MAC - there is no one-solution-fix-all - situation is not stable nor is there a consistent behaviour to solve the problem; -> Another problem is that when in coherence mode I can only open 1 Windows File Explorer window; when not in coherence mode I can open multiple File Explorer windows. This might seem trivial, but it is not. I can only work in coherence mode because this way the windows panels are completely shown - if not in coherence mode a bug persists: showing windows panels on any external monitor (other than a mac monitor) will show the top half unreadable (transparant). This is very annoying. Functionality is the issue here: Because I can only open 1 single instance of File Explorer, I am forced to open another MAC OS File finder application; I use the third party 'path finder'-app (instead of the standard mac finder app) when needing more than one view on my folders. It allows for organising files and folders easily : I can drag and drop files from one app to ie Windows File Explorer. I find the Windows File explorer app much better than any file-finder apps on Max-OS. My Technical env: - Macbook Pro, M1,16GB, Sonoma 14.1; - Parallels Desktop 19 for Mac Pro Edition V 19,1,1 (54734); - Windows 11 under Parallels V19;
I'm sorry to see you have the same problem. Don't hold your breath though, I never received any response to the report I submitted, so they're not really that into customer service and support...
