I get a grinding on the HD of my MacPro after a day at work (or a half a day) and I get an awful lot of beachball hangs on the MacBookPro, I have 5 GB and 4 GB RAM respectively. I am now on Win 7.

I am new to Mac, though I had been running Window XP on the MacPro with Boot Camp. I'm trying to get comfortable reading Page Outs these days. Two things:

    1. Is there a reason why Finder should spike on either or both of these machines - say to 94% of CPU when I am running Parallels?! This seems to have been going on since I started running Parallels 5 back in the day.

    2. Is there a 'normal' amount of RAM that I should have in either of these machines? I run /one/ 3D modeling software and by the time I get going I have Postbox (email), Safari, Finder, HP Printer Dialog, Preview and maybe Adobe Elements open on the Mac Pro. Am I a dinosaur and 5GB is like 512 MB back in the day...?!

    THANKS for any help.
