This is half a feature request, half a bug.

Parallels cannot start WindowsXP in a bootcamp partition when there are any other MSDOS partitions attached to the system. The other drives need to be physically disconnected, not just unmounted.

This hints to me that Parallels is looking for /dev/disk*s* partitions because all drives appear here even when they are unmounted.

Since bootcamp is only supported on the internal / primary boot drive of a laptop, shouldn't Parallels only look for /dev/disk0s* for a MS-DOS/NTFS partition?

Even if there are multiple partitions available, surely a menu / list would be better because the user would have a choice to do something really cool, like run windows off an external firewire drive, for example. (Not that Windows supports this natively.)

Having to unmount and physically disconnect an external drive just to start Parallels in bootcamp mode is really annoying. Especially if you're actually using the external drive at the time.

    Cheers,
    Matt
