I'm still using Parallels Desktop 6 Switch to Mac Edition, running a VM with my old Win XP (on IMac I5 dual core 3,6 gHz with 8 Gb ram and 1 Tb HD with Snow Leopard 10.6.8). Sometimes ago I bought with an offer Parallels Desktop 8, but I never installed it. Because I have to install in the VM a new Windows OS (I think I'll choose Win 7 pro) I would install my electronic copy of Parallels Desktop 8 and then buy the new Desktop 9 as an upgrade, otherwise to emigrate from 6 to 9 I'll have to pay for the full version. Now my question is: upgrading from Desktop 6 to 8 are there any problem ? DO these versions of Parallels Desktop (8 and 9) run on Snow Leopard without problems ? How many times it takes ? Must I reconfigure the existing VM or not ? All of this it's very important for me, because I work with the VM everyday and I must be sure that making the upgrade I can work without problem.
    Thanks for the help

Upgrade from 6 to 8 and then to 9. There are no issues with old VMs, XP works with both PDM8 and 9 and all these versions work on Snow Leopard. Nothing to worry about, really.

Thanks for the answer. But I want to be sure. As I told I have only one vm with XP running on Desktop 6 and Snow Leopard: launching the .dmg of Desktop 8 upgrade is the only thing I have to do ? Will the existing vm remain the same without any other action by me ?

Yes, as I've told. What more reassurance you want? It will update Parallels Tools just like any other incremental update.
