Hi, I just upgraded my 17" MBP from 4560 to the latest build 5160 (no betas involved). I'm running OS 10.4.9 w/ 4GB RAM, 256VRAM, 160GB 7200 RPM HD. I've got my Windows XP VM Directx enabled, w/ 1000MB to memory and have played with many video mem settings between 16 - 64MB. The VM is working well except Directx apps. I'm getting minor errors, full VM freezes, & 1 fatal error after restarting from trying to launch a variety of apps that use Directx. (from the pathetic 44k 'Dodger' to 'LOTR Online' (which I'm assuming won't work just yet)) When I run 'dxdiag' and test both the Directx & Direct draw components, everything works perfectly. There are 2 files that come back listed as old versions. But I've reinstalled Directx 3 times and can't make these prompts go away. I would really appreciate any advice on trying to get apps/games using Dx running. I know my machine is more than capable of running 3D, it would be great to get it all working smoothly. Thanks, MM
Hi, Sounds like you want to play with a lot of games on your laptop. Use bootcamp then. This is where you will have the best graphics performance. And when you are running those games you do not need to receive email, or have itunes running, or maange your photo collections. So you might as well use bootcamp when you want to play games, the rest of the times you can boot into x. Less aggravations, your games will run very good, and you can even start playing those DirectX 9 games right now.
