Glacial USB to iPaq Transfer speed after 4.0

On my second attempt, I successfully installed PD 4.0 on my MacBook Pro Intel Mac Duo, but as a fresh Windows XP install- my upgrade from 3 to 4 failed with similar problems noted on this site. Since updating, the problem that has vexed me is the incredibly slow transfer rates via USB 2.0 connection to my Ipaq 210 Pocket PC during software installs. I mean glacially slow, taking 30 minutes to install a 5 mb program. This took literally seconds in Version 3. During this time, the laptop heats up dramatically.
I have reinstalled the latest 4.0 build, reinstalled Tools, checked for hardware problems in Device Manager, removed and reinstalled the Pocket PC/Windows hardware association.
I am a physician and regularly update my LexiComp medical reference databases - 15 files ~ 3-5 mb each. This is really not possible until this problem is fixed. I am mainly a Mac person and use my Windows VM for only a few, but critical things.
I have found nothing about this on the forums here or elsewhere.
