I recently installed 5 and now received a temporary activation code for the free upgrade to 6. Am I suppose to uninstall 5 and do a completely new install of 6 and then use this activation code? Or, is there an upgrade version of 6 that gets installed in conjunction with 5? And, does the Windows XP OS that I installed have to be reinstalled or is that fine as is? (FYI . . . I am not using Boot Camp)
When you install Parallels Desktop 6, it will automatically remove Parallels Desktop 5 (I don't think they can be installed at the same time unless you install onto a different Mac OS X disk). You do not need to reinstall Windows XP. If you want to downgrade from Parallels Desktop 6, then first you need to run the Uninstaller that comes on the Parallels Desktop 6 install disk image .dmg. After you buy the Parallels 6 upgrade, you will get a new upgrade activation key. You don't need to reinstall Parallels Desktop 6. You might need the Parallels Desktop 5 activation key to use the upgrade key.
