Background: My goal is to share a custom application using the Remote Application Server, then from within the shared application, the user can open a report (.pdf) or a file (.png) but instead of opening the file on the remote server, I have written a custom application to transfer the file to the client machine. I have created a group policy to associate the file types with my custom application.

The problem: When I log into the server via remote desktop, the group policy successfully applies and the files are correctly associated to the custom app and everything works okay. But if I create a new user, that never signs onto the remote desktop, when that user tries to use the shared application for the first time, group policy never applies and it fails to associate the file types to the custom app on the server. I get the message that windows does not have an application to open the file.

The group policy that is failing is a computer policy. Is this a known limitation of sharing applications via Parallels? Any advice for me?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
    Trevor

Hi TrevorW2, when assigning to users, the application is not installed until the user actually clicks on the icons created for the application.
    1. Right on the policy you've just created > Edit
    2. Go to Computer Configuration > Policies > Software Settings > Software Installation
    3. Right-click Software Installation > New > Package
    4. In the Open dialog type the full UNC path of the shared package you want to assign > click on the Open button.
    5. Click on Advanced and then click OK (the package will be added to the right pane of the "Group Policy" window)
    6. Right click on the added package > Properties > Modifications tab > Add > select MST file you prepared and click OK and let us know how it works.
