had to remove vm, lost data

Out of nowhere, when I tried to open my virtual machine, I got an error message saying that it was corrupt and must be removed. There was no option except for a button that said "remove". So, I removed and reinstalled my Windows XP. The problem is that I now can't get at my data (specifically my outlook data file containing my emails). I can see the old XP, which contains a file called harddisk0.hdd.0.{5fbaabe3-6958-40ff-92a7-860e329aab41} which is 31.9 GB large, so I figure there's something in there.... Is there any way to get this information back? Unfortunately, the backup was done incorrectly, so I can't restore from that. Help!!!
