I decided to try out Parallels with my existing boot camp partition (Windows XP Professional)- by accident really, I had originally been planning to install Ubuntu on Parallels just to say I'd done it, but then Parallels opened with stuff about the boot camp partition and I decided to try it, figuring it'd still let me use it in boot camp. Everything works OK in Parallels, but when I try to run from Boot Camp I get the hal.dll error. I tried to run the XP installer via Boot Camp Assistant, but with the install CD in my drive [I'm using a Macbook purchased in January 2007, by the way] it just goes directly to the hal.dll error without letting me do anything else. Some other stuff that looks like it might help if I could choose it shows up for a split second, but not long enough for me to know what it actually says. I finally got it into OSX by holding down option but it took a few tries before it worked. I have the latest version of Parallels, and Boot Camp 1.3 Beta.

I've read other posts on here... one topic suggested deleting the hal.dll file, but there was no response from the original poster as to whether or not this worked. I also found the stickied topic called "How to: Resolve trouble between Parallels and Windows under Boot Camp." Sections 2-4 didn't appear to be relevant.. section 1 maybe, but it didn't mention hal.dll anywhere so I wasn't sure. I really don't want to screw anything up further. Help?
