Hey, im new to using a mac and parallels, im using the latest Build btw and i've slowly worked it all out of the last couple of days..

Although the only issue or question i'd like to ask is....

When installing an external sound card(Via USB), do i need to install it in my other OS(WinXP)?

No, the sound is routed thru Parallels sound drivers on Windows to the Parallels.app on Mac and from there it's handled like any other Mac application. Unless you want Windows to have direct access to it.

If you plug in the sound card via USB while the VM is running it will ask you if you want the VM to use it, answer No unless you want Windows to have direct access to it.

If the sound card is working on OSX then all you have to do is start the VM normally.

ok thanks, i'll see how i go..

another thing, when i connect my midi controller (M-Audio Oxygen 8 V2) the display box drops down and says what you explained before...

Although, when i am in my production program(Abelton Live), after about 2 or 3 minutes of playing around, its like the midi controller looses "connection" to the program, nuthing works after that. ONTOP of that, the Guest OS seems to go alot slower asif the CPU usage was up... so i have to force closer the programs and start again..

    any idea?

It's simple: When you connect an USB device while the VM is running a message is displayed in Parallels but OSX will get a hold of it anyways after a few seconds even if you don't reply to the box, so, if the device is to be used directly in the VM you have to reply quickly, if it's not reply to it just so the box goes away but OSX probably has already got a hold of it.

It's better to have all the USB devices you're going to use connected before you start the VM and then use the USB icon in the Parallels window to assign USB devices to the VM.
