Just bought a new iMac...switching over from PC. Installed Parallels Desktop, migrated all my PC files using Parallels Transporter, and also installed a Windows Vista VM. The Windows Vista VM opens and works fine and I installed Parallel Tools.

I try to launch the VM containing the migrated PC files and it goes into the configure mode but doesn't get past Step 1 of 4. The BSOD flashes quickly for a second, then changes to the black error screen and reads:
    ______________________________________________________
    WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY

Windows failed to launch. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose "Start Windows Normally".
    ______________________________________________________

I then get a Parallels popup message that reads:

"You need to manually continue the process of configuring the "Dell Xfer" virtual machine.

To continue with the configuration, log in to your Windows virtual machine. If you have the CD autorun option enabled, the configuration will resume automatically. Otherwise, open My Computer and run the setup.exe file located on your CD, ignoring any Windows messages. For more information on configuring your virtual machines, visit the configuration page on the Parallels website."

Do also need to install Parallel Tools in this VM? If so, I can't seem to do it from Virtual Machine >> Install Parallel tools. Also, I don't have the CD...I downloaded the software.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Parallels Tools is in an .iso image at /Library/Parallels/Tools. The Install Parallels Tools option just sets your CD drive to point to the .iso. You can do that manually.

You can't install Parallels Tools to the virtual machine until your virtual machine boots into Windows.
