I wanted to have a dabble with Linux, so I downloaded Ubuntu 14.04 from the Parallels wizard window, and it all seems to work pretty well, no special problems.
But it kept inviting me to upgrade to 15.10 as the current version, so I tried that and the upgrade process locked up three times (different points).
I saw a comment that 15.04 was the latest version supported by Parallels 11, so I downloaded and installed that and it seemed OK but still wanted to upgrade to 15.10. This upgrade seemed to work this time except 15.10 would not shut down (hangs at logo plus blobs). After force stopping I have to go back to a snapshot to restart, but still no shut down.
While looking for a 15.10 download I found this page:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
which implies 14.04.4 LTS is the long term supported version and 15.10 is a nine month version, presumably to be superseded.
So I am currently thinking for a casual Linux dabbler maybe 14.04.4 LTS is the version for now. I don't want to be frequently running into problems which need solutions tracking down, and Terminal commands to fix.
But what I currently have from Parallels Wizard says it is 14.04 LTS not 14.04.4 LTS. But I have applied all updates available so am I effectively on 14.04.4 or do I need to download and install 14.04.4 LTS?
Hopefully someone can clarify the situation for me and advise ?
EDIT, just tried installing the 15.10 download from the link above and it seems to work OK...no shut down problems.
Thanks
