I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I've searched the forums to no avail. I like using Crystal mode (PD6), but I don't use Windows all the time and it's severely annoying when it's launched against my will. This happens when, for example most recently, Safari downloads a wmv file. It seems Parallels is under the assumption that when people use their product for Windows, they will keep it running 24/7. While I often have PD6 running (for Linux), running yet another VM saps my memory and makes my Mac unusable while it's restoring Win7. Ideally, Parallels would simply PROMPT me on whether I would like to launch Windows. Perhaps if I knew exactly how it creates proxy applications (which I assume then launch Parallels) I could write an alternative app or script. Better yet, Parallels would just add the option for such a prompt. Thus far these are the only work-arounds I'm aware of: 1) Disable app sharing, which also disables crystal. I'd rather not disable either as the feature is useful WHEN WINDOWS IS ALREADY RUNNING! 2) Re-associate every single file type to a custom app which would then launch the Windows app proxy as I please. This would require a bit of work, and the file associations tend to be slippery in any case. If anyone knows a way to automate the file associations that may be useful. 3) Enable some secret option which I haven't been able to find yet. Oh please oh please oh please....
