How much overhead in bridged ethernet mode?

Running Parallels 1848 (think that's the build).

I had to switch to bridged ethernet recently. The network admin, I'm guessing, thought I was using a hub on my ethernet port at work. So, WinXP couldn't get an IP assigned anymore.

I'm curious as to the overhead. Things are getting so slow that I'm debating on whether or not I should return to BootCamp. I don't want to as the whole point was to immerse myself in OSX, while still being productive.

My hdd file is still rather small: 7.6GB. Is there a limit here? I had to reboot my machine as the keyboard was completely dead.

    Any advice on experience/troubleshooting?
