    Hi,

    I installed Mandriva 2008 Spring without any problems into a new VM in Parallels 3 build 5608. However, when I boot it, it looks like the hypervisor is crashing as soon as it tries to load X? Anyone else having similar issues?

    I've attached the bug report; it doesn't seem too informative (to me at least).

    I can get to single user, but as soon as I try to load X it crashes. I haven't installed parallels tools or anything like that.

    Yep, indeed no clue

    Try to find those
    Archive of /Library/Parallels/bugreports/
    or ~/Library/Parallels/bugreports/

    * /Library/Logs/panic.log
    or ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Parallels.crash.log from the Mac side;

    I've attached the archive, but I don't see anything else revealing.

    I tried setting X to use 800x600 instead of 1024x768, no change either.

    Still no use
    Can you see something in Mac OS system.log?

    There's nothing there either which indicates a crash. Nor are there any messages which match up with the time the hypervisor failed:

    Quite a few :)

    Typically:

    Firefox
    Mail
    iCal
    Adium
    Colloquy
    TextEdit
    OmniOutliner
    iTunes
    Terminal
    Quicksilver

    + in the menu
    iScrobbler
    CapsWarn
    iStat Menus
    SynergyKVM

    + who knows what launchd is loading in the background. Locationchanger and Hazel are the ones I know of.

    I don't run any anti-virus apps. My Ubuntu and Windows VM's seem to work fine. But it is worrying considering that no matter how bad a guest OS behaves, it should never be able to crash the hypervisor.

    Did you install Synergy on Mandriva?

    No, all I've done is the default install and the subsequent reboot, where X crashes so I can't get any further.

    Try to create new VM with OS type Mandriva and add existing disk, this may help
    Also try to disable Hardware Acceleration and Intel VT-x support

    I created a new VM with no change. When I disable VT-x, right at the start of the kernel initializing the VM turns off. Disabling HW acceleration had no effect.

    If I copy and convert the disk image and run it in Virtualbox, it loads fine.
