I have to install Parallels tools before Mint 18 software update

If you do a clean install of mint 18 and try to run the Mint software update, it throws up a window asking you to select which type of software you wish to track. The Accept button is hidden (evidently off the screen at the bottom). Once you install Parallels tools the button is visible. I wonder about the wisdom of having to install the tools before updating the Mint software.
