The boot time and loading programs has been getting rather slow in Parallels for the last year. Like 5-10 minutes. I'm suspecting if the PVM files needs defragmented on the Mac OS side. Here's why: I've got a 2011 iMac with an i7 CPU and 16 GB of RAM. It has a 1 TB hard drive that is about 55% full. Parallels is up to date. It's been an issue in Mountain Lion and Yosemite, so I don't think it's related to the Mac OS. It happens in Windows 7 and Windows 10, so don't think it's related to the windows version either. I've defragmented from the Windows side with a great 3rd party tool, but it only seems to help a little. I've enabled the Adaptive Hypervisor, which helps a little, but doesn't really shorten the load time. Watching activity monitor in Mac OS shows the Hard Drives is active the entire time. So it makes me wonder if the PVM file needs defragmented on the Mac hard drive. The file is 140 GB. From what I've seen, Mac OS doesn't defragment files that big automatically. I've been searching the forums and Google but any time people bring up the topic of Parallels Defragmentation people usually just say to defragment the Windows side. Has anybody tried defragmenting their PVM files in Mac OS? Does it make a difference on the boot time and loading issue? I currently don't have ah tool to do so. Or is there another issue I'm overlooking?
