Install Paravirt?

Hello,

I'm running Parallels Desktop 4.0.3810 on a MacBook Air, OS X 10.5.5 and would like to install Windows XP SP2 as a guest OS. I have the Windows install CD as a .dmg on my Air, and Parallels auto-detect sees it. I have typed in my Product key, and the installation starts off normally.

During the Windows install blue screen, I get the following:
Windows XP Professional Setup
Insert the disk labeled:
Parallels Paravirt Installation Disk
into drive A:
Press ENTER when ready
F3 = Quit ENTER=Continue

I've searched all over in the documentation and here in the FAQs for mention of Paravirt, but no luck.
Clicking on the Enter key does not make the installation proceed. F3 asks me to quit the installation.

When I look in the vm configuration, I see an "unattended.fdd" inside the .pvm

Any ideas?

I dont know, Im trying to install a Windows XP SP3 Lite (200MB) probably the cause of the error! please let me know if you have any solutions for this thanks!

 

I got this blue screen because i was trying to install a 75MB version of windows xp. I tried normal, 600 MB, windows xp, sp2 and it works with no errors. good luck

 

Yes i think is a issue with that Windows Lite instead try TinyXP-Rev09

After posting here, I opened a support request to Parallels regarding the incident. The next day I received a reply stating that I needed to downgrade to a previous version of Parallels to correct the issue.

Though I was using the version automatically updated by Parallels during the CD install, their engineer said that I was using a version they were "still testing and wouldn't be stable for a week..." and that I needed to downgrade to the previous version. Since the previous version was not available from their website, I had to uninstall Parallels (using the CD...there's an option to uninstall if it detects it's already installed). Once the uninstall was complete I ran the CD install again and refused the update from the website (forcing the CD version to be installed). Windows XP SP3 then installed successfully as a guest operating system. Once you get XP to install, you can then take the Parallels update to get the latest version.

Lousy behavior and support for a commercial product, methinks.

I'm running into this same issue over a month after the last post with no signs of a solution.

If I understand this correctly, a disk image (iso) made with nlite won't install on Parallels Build 4.0.3844? If this is the case, could someone please be specific about which build it does work with? Or could anybody comment on this being fixed in a future version.

 

try to remove the floppy disk drive from the vm, i can get pass it by doing this.

 

I know this thread is slightly old, but this is the solution.

When you install a virtual machine in Parallels, To have a successful installation and to avoid this error message, go to Configuration, Hardware then Floppy Disk. On the left select Connected and make sure the source is unattended.fdd then start the installation and you won't get this message.

Found a fix

I was facing same problem when I tried to install Windows XP3 on my virtual machine. My office provide xp image with built-in keys. For some reason Parallel was asking me to insert the paravirt disk in Drive A:.

I tried putting unattended.img in the drive but didn't help.

Finally I created new configuration with OS as Other > Other from the menu and then installed OS manually. It worked for me great.

Don't use quick install option for windows. That fails.

 

Exactly the same problem with parallels 7 and this helped! I've de-checked express install and used Other > other. It works!
