Hello, I am a brand new Mac user (MacBook, 2gb RAM, 160 GB HD, Leopard) and am installing Parallels 3.0 to use with licensed Windows XP Home. During the Windows XP install, the Windows-Setup seems to go fine, then I get the prompt "Starting Windows." The window then flips to the Configuration Screen, with a "Stopped" prompt. All attempts to start VM lead to the "boot from hard drive" prompt. I found a post that suggested loading from an ISO Image instead of the XP CD by making an ISO using Parallel Image tool. I don't see this tool anywhere, so I'm stuck. I've deleted the VM 3 times to try to reload but get stuck in the same place. I would appreciate any help - like I said, I'm a old PC user, new to the Mac way. Thanks -JM
Thanks! I tried Disk Utility and made a Disk Image twice: once compressed, once read-only. When I tried to install from the Image, I got the same error for both: "Non-system disk or disk error." I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Any ideas? Thanks, JM
OK - Did some more digging and experiementing and think we're fixed. Seems that a lot of folks are having similar problems. 1) Found Knowledge base article http://kb.parallels.com/entry/30/458/ 2) Before, I tried installing from Disk Image using "Express" install. Article suggested using "Typical" install. That seemed to do the trick. XP is now up and (mostly) running.
