    Moved from "How to"

I installed Parallels Desktop for Mac today & I am trying to install Norton Anti-Virus & Internet protection that is provided by our ISP as a download. The download appears to complete successfully, but when I restart & try to activate the software, Windows is getting stuck in a loop that says "symlcsvc.exe encountered a problem - report to Windows?"

Then I am unable to do anything but restart Windows & the whole cycle repeats. I have tried reinstalling Windows & Parallels 2x already with the same results.

    Can anyone assist?

    Thank you!

I've just upgraded to the latest build of Parallels Desktop and I'm finding that Norton is causing me problems too. After installing Norton I'm getting random system crashes, right down to a complete re-boot. I've done another install without Norton that hasn't crashed so far.

No help here but perhaps this might bring some more attention to the issue.

Posting in the mac technical forum will be the most advantageous thing to do.

    What Build are you using?

Have you tried getting ahold of a regular installation package?

    Is Kaspersky installed?

    Similar problem for me...

I had a similar problem with Parallels when trying to install my IP's free suite of Norton security software a few months back. The install would run fine, but when it came time to activate with Symantec, the process would time out, even after a few hours of trying to connect.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times with no luck. I sent a request for help to my IP, but they are not Mac friendly, so that got me nowhere. I also sent an e-mail to Symantec and got no reply, possibly because their "Help" page has no category for support of free "courtesy" software.
I haven't tried installing Norton with the latest Parallels build, so I don't know if the problem persists, however, since the actual software install went fine, I am assuming that the problem is due to some issue with the Symantec site...
You might try to contact Symantec, but I doubt you'll get a reply. If my assumption about the cause is correct, this issue is probably best solved by the Parallels team contacting Symantec and asking them to fix the glitch, or alteratively if it's possible, developing a work-around within Parallels...
