I've just installed Win XP on the mac and am unsure how to install programs like Office. I can't find any step-by-step instructions... like do I just start the virtual machine and then install the CD? If so, the CD appears on the mac desktop... do I drag it to the Win desktop?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Insert Office CD when Parallels Desktop is running, and follow on screen instruction in Windows Vm
I assume that Vm use CD/DVD-rom is selected on Parallels Desktop -<Virtual Machine name>-Edit-Virtual Machine -CD/DVD-rom

I'm not following you here. I have windows vm running, but don't understand the second part... when I go to parallels desktop and edit the virtual machine, I'm not sure where and what to select use cd/dvd rom.

What's happening is when I have vm running and i put the office cd in, it shows up on my mac desktop and thats it.

Click Windows XP icon for Virtual machine on Desktop, and hold Command key
You will see Virtual Machine Configuration Editor, click CD-DVD-rom
