internet connection works on Mac host, not on Win7 guest

    I have MACOS 10.6.6 host, Win7 guest. Internet was working on both, but when I use a longer ethernet cable, the internet connection is lost on the Win7 side, even though it still works fine on the Mac side. My theory is that with the longer cable I have a slower connection and Win7 is timing out. Any suggestions? I have to use the longer cable to reach my current work area.
