Windows sees the device, but iTunes can't connect to it. I'm running Vista Ultimate SP 2 and iTunes 8.2.1.6. This problem was raised in a thread here two years ago for XP. The following workaround was offered by a user, but doesn't work for me: SOLUTION - first attach iPhone & make sure XP instance "sees it" and is connected to it. 1. Click Start 2. Right-click on "My Computer" icon 3. Select "Manage" 4. Click "plus" sign next to "Services and Applications" 5. Click "Service" from that dropdown 6. Click on Service named "Apple Mobile Device" and select "Restart" 7. Click on Service named "iPod Service" and select "Restart" When I do this with my Vista VM, I get a message saying that iTunes could not connect to this iPhone due to "unknown error" with the reference code 0xE800006B. Possibly related: my flash drive doesn't work with my VM, either. Again, Windows knows it's there, but says the drive is not accessible, the device is not ready. Needless to say, these devices work fine on the Mac side and on a real PC.
Additional information: MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.8. When I plug in the phone, Parallels correctly asks whether to connect it to the Mac or the VM. I click VM, and then Autoplay will sometimes open a browser window that lets me look at the pictures on the phone. Sometimes, instead, I get a message that a USB device has malfunctioned. In either case, iPhoto opens on the Mac, and displays the pictures on my phone. After I told Parallels to attach to the VM??
