    Can anyone tell me how to get # on a UK MacBook Pro keyboard running Ubuntu 7.10?

    System > Preferences > Keyboard

    Then choose the 'Layout Options' Tab and then select a 'Third level chooser'. Then press that (I have the alt key) plus 3 and hey presto.... ################
