Because of a virus, I trashed my VM and created a new one using OS X 10.6.5, Windows XP and Desktop 6. After some glitches I got everything working again --except for the keyboard, a Macally iKey that worked perfectly for years in both OS X and Windows. I've installed Tools over and over again, to no avail. The mouse/cursor works as expected, but I can only use the keyboard in Windows if I check Devices > USB > Macally iKey, but then it doesn't work in OS X until I uncheck it. Parallels Troubleshooter showed me how to update my Windows device driver for the keyboard, but that doesn't fix the problem. Any idea?
Parallels is supposed to use PS/2 emulation for the keyboard. When you select Devices > USB > Macally iKey, you tell Parallels to remove the keyboard from the Mac and attach it to the virtual machine's USB port. Does your original Mac keyboard work?
Good ol' tech support came through Here's the procedure that worked for me: ________________________________________ -Please Click on Start > Run. -In the Box type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter/Return. -Find the Keyboard Drivers right click and Uninstall the Driver. -Restart Windows and Check with the issue. Make sure you disconnect the Keyboard from Windows after you Uninstall the drivers and restart. ___________________________________________________________ This last command puzzled me, but I assumed it meant to uncheck the Device>USB>Macally iKey. I also reinstalled Tools, perhaps gratuitously. The fix worked right away, altho' slow as molasses, but after restart it was OK. Thanks, Tech Support.
