I have SQL Server 2008R2 64-bit installed on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit guest O/S. When I go into SQL Server Management Studio and try to open a database, there are no server instances listed under Local Servers. I can find the installation under Network Servers and connect there, but wondering why the server isn't showing up as a local instance.

Need to get this resolved to run software that relies on a local SQL instance.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks,

    Marty
