I am running an image of Windows XP SP 3 and I have the Connect to CD/DVD checked, but no CD drive exists in My Computer. I am running OSX 10.5.5 and Parallels Desktop 3.0 build 5608.
see Parallels Desktop for Mac user guide from http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/doc/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac_User_Guide.pdf page 180 Make sure that you selected correct choice
I have Enabled checked, Connect at Start Up checked, use CD/DVD Rom button selected, Default CD/DVD in showing in drop down box, and Connect to 0:1 is showing in drop down box. My device manager is showing a problem with CD. The message I get is: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
2 more steps 1. Stop VM, and select another channel - also make sure no cd in cd-dvd 2. Create new VM and use hdd from old
What do you mean by select another channel? What I have done was make sure there is no CD in drive and create a new VM. The problem is still not fixed.
The problem I reported in the following thread may be the same one you are experiencing. It may help to remove the last Windows Security Update, as it breaks my DVD drive in what sounds like the same way as yours: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=30461
Installed backUp image from 9/13/08 and my CD works. Per post from gregarios I ran Windows Update, installed all the updates except KB956841. I rebooted several times and my CD continued to work. Then I ran Windows Update again and allowed Security Update KB956841 to install and see if that was what broke my CD. After installing KB956841 and multiple reboots my CD has continued to work.
None of the suggestions on the parallels site worked to resolve the problem I was having after updating to Parallels 6.0.1194 which was that the Virtual (or real) CD was reporting code 41, hardware could not be found. The procedure I used was generally described here (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080808141039AABJ2W9) and basically consists of finding the particular HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry entry that (a) says "CDROM / DVD" or the like (b) has upper and/or lower filter key entries and remove the filter entries (leave the rest of the registry items alone). Then, uninstall the drive in the hardware manager in windows, and then rescan for hardware. Reboots between each step were not required for me. Having an image mounted or the real cd-drive connected (i.e., in parallels menu) was also not required. A.
the registry edit works for me I just deleted the upperfilter entry (the only one shown in my case) and did a reboot. Windows XP immediately got the CD-ROM back. Thanks a lot.
