I have been using Parallels for many months very successfully and think it is awesome software. I recently upgraded to Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac and now I am getting no sound while in Windows XP. Of course, I'm using a VM which was converted (automatically) for use with 3.0. I am trying to avoid having to re-install XP if possible. Has anyone else experienced the same problem and what can be done to correct it?
    Thanks,
    SEP

PS: I sent a email to Parallels tech support but have not yet gotten a response. Thanks...

    Hello SEP
You need to reinstall Parallels Tools
Start your Windows VM, go to "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Add or Remove Programs" - uninstall "Parallels Tools" application.
Then go to the Actions menu on the Parallels Desktop menubar - select "Install Parallels Tools"
    Follow Installation Wizard instructions.

    Still no sound!

    Ankou,
Thanks very much for your quick reply. I did as you said and uninstalled Parallels Tools and then re-installed it. I confirmed that it was fully uninstalled before re-installing. This did not fix the sound problem, unfortunately. Everything else works well as before but still no sound. Any other ideas? Thanks for your help...

    Sincerely,
    SEP

You might want to try to delete the driver in the windows XP hardware manager and let windows rediscover the hardware.

Also make sure you have it enabled and connected in the VM machine.

    Hey fbronner,
Thanks for the suggestions. I went ahead and deleted the AC'97 sound driver and then reboot Windows and it rediscovered the hardware and reinstalled the driver. Unfortunately, I still have no sound.
Just to make sure I didn't screw up with Ankou's suggestion to uninstall Parallels Tools, I went back and uninstalled it again. But this time instead of reinstalling it (after a reboot), I played around for a minute and noticed that I do have sound again when Parallels Tools is not installed. Unfortunately, the sound is occasionally garbbled and the other features of Tools are obviously missing, so this is not a solution. I went ahead and reinstalled Tools and all features are there but still no sound!
Perhaps, I need to go back to version 2.5 of PD for Mac? Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    SEP

I've done everything from the posts above and I still have No Sound. Does anyone have a new suggestion?

Has anyone found a solution to this problem. I also have lost sound with XP Pro and Parallels 3 Build 5584. Removing and reinstalling Parallels Tools does not help.

Checked Device Manager in XP and no yellow exclamation marks. Can't remember when I lost sound - about 3 weeks ago I think. Can't remember installing anything to change my system.

    My problem solved.

It was the /Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Device Properties/Sounds - reset Sound Scheme to Windows Default.

Seems that something modified/deleted the sound scheme.
