Mac apps open and switch to windows

I want my Mac and Windows separate.
All I want to do is have access to files from each side.

When I open finder or itunes or any app in mac the back ground switchs to windows.
How do I turn this behavior off ?
I think I have tried turning on and off all of the buttons in configure.
