If you do not have special requirements, for Linux OSes, and you are using specific USB devices, yo may stay on current version

I am also using Mac OS 10.5.5 with build 5604 and wondering if there is any point in upgrading to 5608.

John, how do you know what the latest download or fix is for the Beta?

Build 5608 is the latest official build, 5604 was custom build with Parallels Tools for Linux

If I upgrade to 5608, do I need to re-install Windows XP ?

Just another point (not really related to this thread), but is it necessary to shut down Windows before quitting Parallels Desktop ?

No that it is not necessary. Parallels remembers the current state of windows when you are closing the virtual machine. So in the following when you are opening the virtual machine it continues windows exactly in the state you have left, even with the programs you left open etc.
