Mac OSX Mountain Lion?

Hi Folks,

Have any of you who have beta tested Mountain Lion, will PD 6 latest build be compatible with it, or will I have to upgrade to PD7?

I have heard that P7 will only support ML. But that info is just from another Mac forum I belong to. I makes sense because P6 comes from the Snow Leopard days.

Having said all that. Your PVM file won't be lost if you upgrade to P7 so back it up (safer) prior to the ML upgrade and see if P6 works. If it does't you only need to upgrade then to P7 and P7 should pick up the PVM or you can just drop it in and P7 will load the new Parallels Tools. I went from P6-7 after Lion was installed and it was seamless in relation to my P6 built Guest OS.

With me one client less. Great software with awful marketing policies.
I don't want to spend 20$ for OSX plus 50$ for Parallels every year.

At the end of the day, you have to evaluate for yourselves if the value you obtain from Parallels 7 is worth it for you. I made that determination when I upgraded to PD 7 soon after I purchased my mid-2011 Mac Mini (which only ran Lion at that time), to replace my dead iMac G5. I get the following functionality from it and to me was well worth the $49 upgrade fee:

1. I was able to load Windows XP into Parallels, even though BootCamp in Lion will no longer run XP.

2. I needed Rosetta functionality to continue to use PowerPC applications that no longer run in Lion. Consequently I run Snow Leopard server in Parallels 7 to regain that functionality and I am hopeful that it will continue to work as I upgrade to Mountain Lion. P7 and Mountain Lion

I just upgraded to ML today and was informed by the OS that my P7 install was "Incompatible Software". Any ideas?

 

Download the most recent version of Parallels 7 (Build 7.0.15104 or later), uninstall Parallels and reinstall it:

It's not, but having my image held hostage for $50 just because I upgraded to Mountain Lion is ridiculous. I, like many others, are switching to VMWare over Parallels bumbling of this entire situation.

 

Coherence visual display issue with Win7 / Mountain Lion / PD7

I just updated to Mountain Lion and am running the most recent version of PD7. All works fine, *but* swapping between windows in the guest OS does not work without minimizing the application and maximizing it from the doc. Particular issue is worse with Outlook where alt-tab does not work to change the focus or visibility from one window to another.

 

I have the exact same problem, running windows XP guest OS. Is there a fix? Super annoying.

 

I just submitted a support ticket (1427385) with a problemID on it. Perhaps someone else from PRL might be in the forum and might be able to help escalate the issue.

 

Coherence strangeness on Mountain Lion

I'm experiencing the same things you're describing with Coherence mode on Mountain Lion. Another strange behavior is that when typing in a Windows app (e.g. Visual Studio 2010), with nearly every keystroke I get the system beep as if I'm trying to type somewhere without a proper text/entry control being selected. Also, very frequently Cmd-Tab doesn't switch to Mac apps when a Windows app has focus (it especially seems to happen with Outlook)—the focus appears to start moving from one app to another, but then the Windows app is immediately in the foreground again. All very annoying.

 

Jeff, I am experiencing the same strangeness with Coherence mode after Mountain Lion upgrade. The keyboard beeping while using VS 2010 is annoying. I also get a flickering/strobe effect with the mouse pointers fighting between Lion and Win 7 VM in Coherence mode.

Glad I am not the only one having this issue. I submitted a problem report and ticket already on this issue (1427457)

Yes! I forgot to mention the cursor strobing—it's clearly alternating between the black OS X pointer and the white Windows pointer.

Hopefully your keyboard log dump will assist Parallels in determining the cause and a fix...

 

Jeff, were you running your Windows VM Coherence apps on a Mac OS Desktop 2 or greater?

I switched off Coherence mode as I had to get work done. However, I decided to try and reenable Coherence mode on the main Desktop 1 keeping all the Win 7VM apps on my Macbook Pro display itself. I was no longer get the keyboard beeps and Console log messages. I then dragged VS 2010 over to my mini-DVI connected external monitor and it is running fine on Desktop 1 w/o beeps.

I might try later moving my Coherence apps to Desktop 2 and see if it happens again, but I have real work to do atm.

 

I confirmed that the mouse and keyboard beeps only occurs when I run Coherence apps on a Mission Control virtual desktop other that Desktop 1. The problem does not occur on Desktop 1 but 100% of time on Desktop 2.

This is will cause a mental shift for me since I always ran my Win 7 VM apps on Desktops 2 & 3.

 

Nice catch, tawman. I do not see this behavior if my Windows apps are all on Desktop 1, but I do when I move Windows apps to subsequent desktops.
