MacBook 12" -- Can it *really* perform?

  1. Before I buy the new perfect-for-me-for-traveling-size MacBook 12", I've been researching whether or not the new "m" version of the i5 or i7 chips -- coupled with purchasing it with 16GBs of RAM -- would be a good Parallels 12-performing experience or not. I know what the published recommended system configurations are for Parallels 12, but like any software maker there is usually an experiential gap between "yeah...those sysconfigs will let the software run" vs. "it will run, but you'll have to go make a cup of coffee while it boots up and, while running, please be very, very patient 'cause it is dog-slow."

My work machine is an iMac 27" with 32GBs of RAM and a 1TB SSD so Parallel's VMs scream on that machine. I don't need the MacBook 12" to scream, but would it give decent performance that won't make me, a grown man, cry? Or is it truly an ultrabook good only for lightweight use like word processing or Chrome open with less than 5 tabs, and I just man-up and buy the new MacBook Pro?
