Consider this a warning! I installed the 3 latest security patches last Wednesday. It's taken me until late Saturday afternoon to recover with the help of two Parallels' Techs in India. Nothing I did could repair the damage, even though I restored the registry three times. We don't know exactly what the patches did, but all my problems began immediately after applying them after which I got a BSOD and then an endless loop of restarts & BSOD. Only by getting into Safe Mode could I shut down the Windows XP Pro SP2 guest OS. Event Manager indicated a number of boot or system state drivers were not loading, as well as two software program's updating keys (Corel and Avast) had been lost, despite attempts at restoring the Registry. No trick could solve the problem until we went to what I'd read would not work: LastKnownGoodConfiguration which booted Windows successfully. I hadn't tried it because Windows booted relatively far before crashing . . . . I would get the Desktop up and Avast trying to update before the BSOD and consequently believed this had overwritten the true last good configuration. We next discovered that my internet connection was so trashed we had to uninstall Parallels and then re-install it. I had been using the latest 5.0.9344 build which we successfully reinstalled. The tech had a difficult time installing Parallels Tools during our initial attempts at recovery, but it was there after the re-install.

It's all working just fine now, but I've spent a total four hours on the phone (one hour yesterday and three today) with the techs in India. And, yes, I paid for the telephone consult because I believed that email support just wasn't going to work; only a joint session on Mikogo with the tech actually seeing and operating the OS was going to fix the problem.
